Sporadic Episodes and Working At a Natural Pace
--> Slow(er) productivity; more clients fast(er); more ease, peace and freedom in all areas of life; and more for you, inside the comfort zone
Perhaps you noticed that last week no new podcast episode of Inside the comfort zone got published — perhaps you didn’t. Which is kind of my point …
I have certain people and thought leaders that I personally follow and whose work I subscribe to, and whenever they publish something new I want to be notified. What I don’t do, most of the time though, is to throw myself over their latest creation, putting everything else aside. It’s not that their stuff isn’t interesting — it is of course, it is the fact that I want to be able to consume and engage with their work in my own time, when I’m in the right mood for what the next exciting topic might be.
And so, even though they are consistent and regular I still end up consuming their content at my own pace and at my own time.
Personally, I don’t have the bandwidth to take in too many things all at once all the time. So I am rather mindful about what, when and even how I receive information or stimuli. That way I can make sure that I get more out of what it is that I engage with (I don’t want to mindlessly distract myself or simply add noise to my life). All this got me thinking …
Perhaps I don’t have to board the hype-train of believing that I should post a new regular podcast episode every week, making it a very challenging project to juggle all the while running my own business, which is NOT podcasting. Podcasting is something I enjoy and want to keep enjoying. I get to share valuable thoughts, tips and ideas, and I get to have some really interesting conversations with other inspiring people.
What would it look like if my podcast published sporadic episodes, which were still packed with valuable tips and ideas, but that came out less regular (but still consistent)??
I’m sure that I’m not alone in being mindful about what I fill my mind and time with. And I’m sure that you too have you’re own system of saving episodes, articles or reels that you mean to come back to once the time is right.
For example, I am a super-user of Pocket, a service and an app that allows you to save online content (web based) for later and can be set to be accessed offline (which is perfect for when travelling or when you want to keep your phone on flight mode). In Pocket I save all kinds of material, research for my podcast; my (upcoming) book; my business projects; and my personal reading interests.
In short, I wanted to let you know to expect my podcast episodes to be published less regularly and more sporadically and still I will try to create two or more episodes per month. So please make sure you’ve subscribed to the show on whatever podcast app you use, that way you won’t miss any episodes, and feel free to consume them in your own pace.
What I might also be doing is writing more articles or posts on Substack (where my podcast also lives — the new home for creatives). In fact, this article/post might be the very first one(?) You see, there’s a lot that happens in the world of personal and professional performance, especially when I’m developing the controversial concept of “Inside The Comfort Zone” and for that reason there might be good reasons for me to share other things with you besides the podcast episodes.
For example, I’m launching a small and intimate community simply called “Insider Community” which offers powerful support, tools and coaching for people who want to implement the ideas that I typically share with the podcast community, and to learn how to get things done the easy way. You get daily prompts and weekly live calls and instant access to more ease, peace and freedom in all areas of life. Read more about it and join here —>
Another thing that I’ve been busy doing lately is delivering my free personal 1:1 webinar called “The One-Client-System”. I decided that I wanted to give twenty free sessions to anyone who wanted one, in order for me to test some new ideas and concepts out, before rolling it out more officially. It has been an amazing experience, and I’m grateful to see people’s confidence grow as well as their client lists. If you’ve missed your chance to get a free 75-minute session on how to get more clients without using social media or marketing, then you can claim your free spot here (for as long as there are available spots).
My Latest Podcast Appearances
I’ve had the pleasure to having been many podcasts recently, and so I thought that I could share some of the most recent appearances.
One of my favourite podcast interviews ever was when I appeared on “Perspective of the Mind” hosted by Diyana Dimitrova. We talked about all my favourite topics; growth inside the comfort zone, and building a coaching/helping business without social media. Here’s some short highlights from the interview, and I recommend you check out the full episode.
One of my favourite people is Andy Mort, and I was recently featured on his fun and impactful podcast “The Gentle Rebel” and we talked about the coaching industry, integrity, ethics and much more. This is a podcast that I recommend that you queue up if you’re a coach, healer or helper.
And finally, for all you Swedes out there, just the other day, my partner and I were interviewed about our relationship and our nomadic, minimalistic lifestyle. Anette and Annette hosting the very excellent “Change Makers Podden” are amazing people and are doing so much good in the world through their work with certifying Change Maker Coaches and helping people live with more purpose and passion. It was a great conversation, one that I was happy to share with my inspiring partner, one that merely scratched the surface of all the things we have to say … 🙊
A Book Tip (what I’m currently reading)
The book that I’m currently reading is one that despite me only being about 57% through, I’ve been recommending it to probably ten people! It was a book that I was very much looking forward to ever since I was notified about it’s upcoming release. Written by Cal Newport, the book is called, “Slow Productivity: The Lost Art of Accomplishment Without Burnout”.
It is a great read and it is very timely for me, after having recently produced my 4-part podcast series called “Get Things Done The Easy Way”, and so I’ve really liked the thorough writing and research that often is the case in Cal Newport’s books.
And, this all converge with why I’m writing this post.
In the book, Cal talks about the three principles that help you develop Slow Productivity as a way to still be productive:
Do fewer things
Work at a natural pace
Obsess over quality
Number two here, is what I wanted to entertain for my own podcast production: I wanted to allow for a more natural pace rather than a frantic or hectic one. I want to be able to tune into a creative and inspiring pace rather than bringing duty or guilt to the process.
Back to the book …
It is a great read. And in a normal fashion it’s filled with examples of famous individuals who can serve as good examples of getting things done, only slower, and with a greater satisfaction. The third principle of “obsessing over quality” seems to be the gateway to getting away with slower productivity. When what you deliver is of high quality, or at the very least something that is making a big enough difference or impact, then you can take more time in creating it.
And I’ve shared before how, I believe that time is the multiplier of impact, of making a difference. In order to make something noteworthy, something remarkable something substantial we want to go deeper not wider, we want to spend time on it, not just rush it by. Which again, brings me back to my podcast production; how I want to follow a more natural pace in order to make things of substance so that it can make the difference you need it to make.
This is all of course an invitation for you to do the same, to take inventory of where in your life or at work you’re rushing and struggling with creating something of worth, something remarkable. And I invite you to pick up a copy of the book, and to share your insights with me, with us, here in the comments or by sending me a direct message.
Thank you for your attention today. I don’t take that for granted. And I’m looking forward to connecting with you, perhaps as a member of the Insider Community, perhaps from you leaving a comment here or sending me a direct message. Either way, we’ll talk more soon. Until then, stay comfortable 🙏
